Description
Two of the country's leading experts on funds management for
community banks will present their views on how to attain
"Top Gun Investment Performance" within the confines
of proven risk management constraints.
Darren Herrmann (Senior Vice President and Treasurer,
UMB Financial Corporation) and Pat Thompson (Divisional Executive
Vice President and Chairman of UMBF's Funds Management Committee)
will discuss the keys that are fundamental to effective portfolio
management, provide a variety of peer group analysis, and
present several case studies during their presentation.
This program is appropriate for senior financial executives
with responsibility for Risk Management, Investment Banking,
Portfolio Management, Marketing, Market Research and Strategy
Teams.

About Darren
Herrmann
Darren Herrmann is the Senior Vice President and Manager of the
Financial Services Group of UMB Bank. He is also the Treasurer
and Chairman of the Asset/Liability Committee of UMB Financial Corporation
Darren
Herrmann earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration
and Masters in Business Administration from Central Missouri State
University, located in Warrensburg, Missouri. He was an examiner
with the Office of Thrift Supervision from June 1986 until December
1993, with a focus on the risks associated with embedded options.
Darren
joined the Investment Banking Division of UMB Bank in Kansas City,
Missouri in December 1993. He created and leads the Financial Service Group, which provides
bank and non-bank institutional clients of UMB Bank's Investment Banking
Division assistance with asset/liability policy and strategy formulation,
advanced analytics, and modeling.
As UMBF Treasurer and Chairman of the Asset/Liability Committee, Darren
is responsible for the analysis, reporting, and development of asset/liability
management policies and strategies for UMB Financial Corporation and
its affiliated banks. He is a member of the faculty of
the Graduate School of Banking, University of Wisconsin-Madison; and
a member of the faculty of the Graduate School of Banking, University
of Colorado.
About
James "Pat" Thompson, Jr.
Pat Thompson is the Divisional
Executive Vice President and Manager, Investment Banking Division,
UMB Bank. He is also the Co-Chairman and CEO, UMB Scout Brokerage
Services, and the Chairman, Funds Management Committee of UMB Financial
Corporation.
Pat
Thompson earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University
of Texas-Austin in 1964, where he was a member of the Texas golf
team coached by Harvey Penick.
He joined City National Bank in Kansas City, Missouri (the
predecessor to UMB Bank) in 1966 as a management trainee. He joined
the Bond Department in 1967, and has remained with UMB in the bond
department except for a ten year period from 1979 to 1989 when he
was President and CEO of a chain banking group located in southwest
Kansas.
Pat
is responsible for directing the activities of Investment Banking
Division and the Brokerage and Insurance affiliates of UMB Bank. As Chairman of the Funds Management Committee, he is
responsible for the implementation of the portfolio management strategies,
funds pricing, and asset/liability policies and strategies of UMB
Financial Corporation and its affiliated banks.
